About the program and its main topics

The Master's Program in Educational Psychology / Development and Learning was established with the establishment of the Department of Educational Psychology in the academic year 1987/1988, and the study plan of the program consists of (33) credit hours for each of the two tracks of the thesis and the comprehensive exam, and the compulsory and optional study subjects of the program are distributed in three areas of knowledge as follows: First: Psychological and educational measurement and evaluation, and includes the following subjects: theory in the development of tests, measurement of values, tendencies and tendencies, classroom evaluation, child development evaluation, personality measurement, and individual assessment methods. Second: Research Methods and Statistical Methods, which includes the following subjects: research design and methods, analytical statistics, and the use of computers in data analysis. Third: Educational Psychology (Development, Learning, Childhood) and includes the following subjects: developmental theories and their applications, educational psychology, theories of learning and teaching, childhood psychology, and teaching thinking.
 
Program Vision
Preparing researchers and specialists who seek in-depth and specialized knowledge that qualifies them to contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the learning and teaching process in educational institutions at all levels.

    Program Mission
Training students on scientific research skills in the field of educational psychology, specifically the field of learning and human development, and providing multiple resources to enrich their knowledge in this field and help them develop self-learning skills. (Lifelong learner).
 
 Program Objectives
1. Qualifying learners and empowering them with knowledge and skills and keeping pace with scientific and technological development in educational psychology
2. Developing research and investigation skills for original topics and issues in learning, education, and human growth that contribute to scientific progress and propose solutions to theoretical and practical issues and problems.
3. Training learners to: compare, experiment, and build standards related to learning, teaching, and human development, conduct research studies related to them, and write reports on them.​

After completing the Master of Educational Psychology/Learning and Development program, the student is expected to be able to:
1. Demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles, and assumptions of the basic theories of learning and development, and educational psychology.
2. Analyzes and compares theories explaining the learning and teaching process, and demonstrates an understanding of human behavior in diverse contexts.
3. Accurately analyzes and diagnoses the factors and contexts that lead to the occurrence of developmental and behavioral problems and disorders.
4. Evaluates the criteria used to judge normal and abnormal behavior, and suggested intervention methods to overcome problems.
5. Apply the theories of learning and teaching in the teaching process, evaluation methods and strategies, and show positions that support the principles of these theories and strategies.
6. Accurately and professionally observe the behavior in various situations, and analyze it to identify the factors affecting the development of individuals.
7. Employs developmental and preventive methods in the development of human behavior, demonstrating commitment to the values and ethics of the profession and society.
8. Develops and adopts appropriate standards for judging the extent of behavior.
9. Employs analytical and critical thinking skills in analyzing life situations related to developmental manifestations.
10. Demonstrates a deep understanding of the methodologies, methods, and designs of quantitative and qualitative scientific research, and the methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and employs them in the preparation of his thesis and conducting theoretical and applied research, and reaches conclusions that he presents in seminars, conferences, or in the form of oral and written reports.

Keeping pace with the national frameworks regulating higher education qualifications in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the issuance of the Universities Accreditation Commission at the Ministry of Higher Education
A study of the needs of the Jordanian labor market, which showed that there is a national need for psychometric and educational measurement graduates to work in the testing centers of the Civil Service Bureau, the measurement and evaluation centers in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, the National Center for Human Resources Development, the Department of Statistics, public and private schools, care centers for people with special needs, and psychological clinics.
Study and analysis of a group of selected programs as reference indicators for the development of the Master's program in Educational Measurement and Evaluation, where three programs in educational measurement and evaluation were selected: local (Yarmouk University program), Arabic (King Saud University program) and foreign (Kent State University Program) due to obtaining accreditation from university accreditation bodies, and for enjoying a good reputation in the field of educational measurement and evaluation, and a reference comparison of the current academic program of the University of Jordan with the selected programs was made As Benchmarks for Development

3.      Addressing the needs of early childhood education: Providing a program that responds directly to local, regional, and international demand for qualified early childhood educators, equipped with contemporary pedagogical skills and a deep understanding of child development.

4.       Promoting Local Educational Practices: Providing a curriculum program tailored to meet specific educational needs and cultural contexts in Jordan, with the aim of enhancing the quality of early childhood education locally through contextually relevant practices.

5.      Promoting the holistic development of children: To provide a holistic educational approach that emphasizes the holistic development of children, with a focus on cognitive, linguistic, physical, social, and emotional development through innovative and research-supported teaching methods.

6.     Supporting Inclusion and Diversity: Developing teachers who are able to provide inclusive and diverse learning environments that respect and integrate different cultural, social, and individual differences among children.

7.      Promoting professional ethics and continuing education: Instilling a strong professional ethic and commitment to continuing education and self-development among graduates, enabling them to adapt to changes and progress in the field of early childhood education.

Field Training
There are two courses related to practical education that the student enrolled in this program take upon completion of the academic requirements and it is in the last semester before graduation, one of which is theoretical and is called (Practical Education 1) and is allocated 3 credit hours and the other is practical and is called (Practical Education 2) and is allocated 9 hours
