MASTER IN (Psychological and Educational Counseling) / Program Overview

About the program and its main topics

The Master's Program in Psychological and Educational Counseling was established with the beginning of the establishment of the Department of Counseling and Special Education in 1985/1986, and the study plan of the program consists of 33 credit hours divided into (21) hours of compulsory subjects and (12) hours of elective subjects in the case of the comprehensive track. The main topics of the program are based on: materials related to basic skills in counseling, as well as research design and methods, and counseling people with special needs and their families.



This program explains through its courses the types of counseling: group counseling, career counseling, as well as courses on counseling theories, counseling methods, personality and adaptation, and at the end of the specialization subjects, the student is expected to complete field training in counseling in the final semester of graduation.

The Master of Psychological and Educational Counseling program is a high-level program that is respected for its pioneering role in preparing specialists and teachers with a prestigious scientific reputation in Jordan and the Arab region.
 
 Program Mission
The mission of this program is to provide educational and training experiences that are commensurate with the needs of the local and Arab community, as this program works to provide the student with basic knowledge in the field of psychological and educational counseling to be able to understand and interpret the psychological life of the human being, how behavior is formed, and provide him with basic knowledge related to the methods and strategies of counseling and the competencies necessary to apply them in the field. Psychological and Positive Communication Skills, and Crisis Intervention Skills, as well as discusses counseling theories in general using preventive and therapeutic methods.
 
Program Objectives
1. Providing the student with basic knowledge in the field of psychological and educational counseling to be able to understand and interpret the psychological life of a person and how behavior is formed.
2. Providing the student with basic knowledge related to counseling and therapeutic methods and strategies and their theoretical foundations.
3. Providing the student with the skills and competencies necessary to implement the counseling process and apply it in the field.
4. Providing the student with logical thinking skills by training him to analyze and interpret human behavior.
5. Providing the student with assessment and diagnostic techniques in counseling and acquiring the skills to use them.
6. Providing the student with communication skills, establishing the counseling relationship, and practicing its application.
7. Providing the student with educational and professional guidance methods and training in their use.
8. Providing the student with the adequacy of employing the guiding concepts to suit the cultural reality of the society.​
