Ph.D. In Educational Psychology / Learning and Development / Program Overview

Overview of the Program and Its Core Topics

The Doctoral Program in Educational Psychology / Learning and Development was established alongside the founding of the Department of Educational Psychology in the academic year 1987/1988. The study plan for the program consists of 54 credit hours for both the thesis track and the comprehensive exam track. The compulsory and elective courses are distributed across three academic domains as follows:

1. Psychological and Educational Measurement and Evaluation, which includes the following courses:

  • Theories in Test Development

  • Measurement of Values, Interests, and Attitudes

  • Classroom Assessment

  • Child Growth Evaluation

  • Personality Assessment

  • Individual Assessment Methods

2. Research Methods and Statistical Techniques, which includes the following courses:

  • Research Design and Methods

  • Analytical Statistics

  • Computer Applications in Data Analysis

3. Educational Psychology (Development, Learning, Childhood), which includes the following courses:

  • Developmental Theories and Applications

  • Educational Psychology

  • Learning and Teaching Theories

  • Child Psychology

  • Teaching Thinking

Preparing and qualifying specialists in the field of development and learning within Educational Psychology in a way that enables them to work in educational and academic institutions.

Program Objectives

  1. Provide research personnel for Jordanian universities and research centers to conduct research in the fields of development and learning.

  2. Supply society with experts in development and education to achieve balanced and integrated human growth.

  3. Prepare qualified university instructors specialized in development and learning.

  4. Train students in skills that enhance learning and development in working with children, and qualify parents in essential parenting skills.

  5. Develop teaching and learning competencies among educational practitioners to improve classroom learning outcomes.

  6. Enhance services provided to support gifted and talented learners, maximizing their learning and developmental potential.

  7. Equip students with skills that raise the quality of child care services and foster appropriate environments for optimal growth and development.

  8. Provide tools that identify learning characteristics, readiness for development, and learners’ potential in learning and growth to help achieve healthy development and learning outcomes.

  9. Qualify students with knowledge and skills aligned with scientific and technological advancements in psychological and educational measurement and evaluation.

  10. Develop research and inquiry skills related to contemporary issues in measurement and evaluation that contribute to scientific progress and offer solutions to theoretical and practical problems.

  11. Train students in constructing, piloting, and standardizing psychological and educational measurement tools; adapting foreign measurement instruments to the Jordanian context; selecting appropriate measurement tools, administering them, interpreting their results, and writing professional reports.​

   About the program and its main topics

The Master's Program in Educational Psychology / Measurement and Evaluation was established with the establishment of the Department of Educational Psychology in the academic year 1987/1988, and the study plan of the program consists of (33) credit hours for each of the thesis tracks and the comprehensive exam, and the compulsory and elective study subjects of the program are distributed in three areas of knowledge as follows: First: Psychological and Educational Measurement and Evaluation, and it includes the following subjects: Theory in the Development of Tests, Measurement of Values, Tendencies, and Attitudes, Classroom Evaluation, Child Development Evaluation, Personality Measurement, and Individual Assessment Methods. Second:  Research Methods and Statistical Methods, which includes the following subjects: Research Design and Methods, Analytical Statistics, and Computer Applications in Data Analysis. Third: Educational Psychology (Development, Learning, Childhood) and includes the following subjects: developmental theories and their applications, educational psychology, theories of learning and teaching, childhood psychology, and teaching thinking.

A program distinguished locally, regionally and internationally in psychological measurement and evaluation and contributes effectively to the development of knowledge and its applications to serve the community and the world.
 
Program Mission
Preparing human cadres is a scientifically empowered researcher initiative that is practically skilled in psychological and educational measurement and evaluation, and capable of competing in the local, regional and international labor market in the field of leading evaluative work, providing tests, measurements, diagnostics, writing evaluation reports, and providing specialized research, training and consulting services to various community institutions and individuals in a way that helps to face challenges, solve psychological and educational problems, and achieve community service and keep pace with cognitive development.
 
 Program Objectives
1. Qualifying learners and empowering them with knowledge and skills and keeping pace with scientific and technological development in psychological and educational measurement and evaluation.
2. Developing research and investigation skills for original topics and issues in measurement and evaluation that contribute to scientific progress and proposing solutions to theoretical and practical issues and problems.
3. Qualifying students to build, experiment and build standards for psychological and educational measurement and evaluation tools, codify foreign psychological and educational measurement and evaluation tools for the Jordanian environment, select, apply, interpret and write reports on the appropriate psychological and educational measurement and evaluation tools.​
