As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the practical and applied aspects of its academic programs, the School of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan hosted educational expert and school development advisor at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ali Mohammad Al-Zoubi, for a scientific lecture within the course “Islamic Concepts and Methods of Teaching," supervised by Dr. Ibrahim Hammad.
In his lecture, Dr. Al-Zoubi addressed several key topics centered around active learning. He emphasized the importance of shifting from traditional teaching methods to modern approaches that focus on engaging the learner and developing their intellectual and practical skills. He also highlighted the need to focus on higher-order thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation through educational activities and practical scenarios that combine both individual and group work, encouraging research, experimentation, and self-directed learning.
In a related context, Dr. Al-Zoubi discussed the vital role expected of female students specializing in “Classroom Teacher" in light of the Ministry of Education's decision to feminize teaching at the basic education level. He stressed the importance of their professional and academic readiness to perform this role with competence and distinction.
The lecture was marked by rich interaction from the students, with an extensive discussion held with Dr. Al-Zoubi on the importance of active learning, ways to implement it in the school environment, the challenges it faces, and the fundamental differences between it and traditional teaching methods.
At the end of the session, the School of Educational Sciences honored Dr. Ali Al-Zoubi, with a group of students presenting him with a shield of appreciation on behalf of the faculty in recognition of his valuable efforts and outstanding contributions in the field of education.
It is worth noting that Dr. Al-Zoubi holds both a master's and a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Teaching Methods from the University of Jordan, as well as a bachelor's degree from Al-Balqa Applied University. He is a member of the Islamic Education Curriculum Writing Team in Jordan and has contributed to the preparation of Islamic Education Teacher Guides in the State of Qatar.
