The School of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan hosted the educational expert Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Hashemi as part of the University of Jordan’s Expert Hosting Program, which aims to enrich students’ learning experiences and expose them to practical expertise from the educational field.
Dr. Al-Hashemi’s visit took place within the course “Basic Concepts in Mathematics,” taught by Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shara‘, Professor of Mathematics Curriculum and Teaching Methods at the School.
During the session, Dr. Al-Hashemi delivered a comprehensive presentation addressing the characteristics and attributes of an effective teacher, as well as the importance of continuous professional development. He also highlighted the contributions of Arab and Muslim scholars to education in general and to mathematics education in particular, such as Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Al-Haytham, Al-Farahidi, and Al-Khayyam, emphasizing their roles in the development of mathematics, trigonometry, Arabic numerals, the relationship between mathematics and artificial intelligence, and the connection between language and mathematics.
Dr. Al-Hashemi stressed the importance of a positive and constructive relationship between teacher and student, and the role of the successful teacher in shaping students’ personalities, developing their thinking skills, and building their value systems, in addition to guiding them to become successful teachers in the future.
