School of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan Begins Classroom Observation Visits for Higher Diploma Students as Part of the “Second School Experience” Course

The School of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan has commenced classroom observation visits for students enrolled in the Higher Diploma in Teacher Preparation Program. These visits are part of the requirements of the course “Second School Experience,” an advanced training component designed to refine student teachers’ skills and enhance their professional readiness prior to entering the teaching profession.

The School emphasized that these visits aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by providing student teachers with opportunities to implement modern instructional strategies within real classroom settings, under the direct supervision of teacher educators and field supervisors.

A distinguished group of faculty members from the program are participating in the implementation of these visits. They closely monitor student teachers’ performance in partner schools and provide constructive feedback focused on lesson planning, classroom management, assessment strategies, and the effective use of educational technologies.

The observation process includes full attendance of the class session by the supervisor, documentation of observations using approved evaluation forms, and a follow-up individual meeting with the student teacher to discuss strengths and areas for improvement. This structured approach ensures systematic and continuous professional development.

Dr. Omar Khattatbeh, Director of the Higher Diploma in Teacher Preparation Program, stated that the “Second School Experience” represents an advanced stage of field training, during which students are expected to assume greater instructional responsibilities, manage real classroom situations, and design learning activities that address individual differences among students.

He added that this step aligns with the vision of the School of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan to prepare competent teachers equipped with professional competencies, solid subject knowledge, and strong educational values—contributing to the continuous improvement of education quality in the Kingdom.
